October 27-30, 2011 – Here Be Monsters Festival
Our 6th annual festival will be once again take over Performance Works Theatre on Granville Island. Six companies will create new 12 minute plays, and our added special event: Theatre created in 125 hours! To learn more, click here.

August 21, 2011 – Monster Hash
Our second annual part scavenger hunt, part amazing race, all day, all ages extravaganza challenging foot ralley, ending with a bbq celebration, prizes and original hand carved wood trophy to the winning team.

October 28-31 2010 – Here Be Monsters Festival
Performance Works, Granville Island, Vancouver Featuring Theatre Under the Gun, 12 independent companies participated in our annual original creation event. Working within 48 hours and using an inspiration package, companies created, rehearsed, designed, and performed original short plays.

August 16, 2009 – Monster Hash
Granville Island, False Creek and the West End of Vancouver
The first annual part scavenger hunt, part amazing race, all day, all ages fundraising extravaganza for the annual Here Be Monsters Festival.

April 10-11 2009 – Keith Johnstone Workshop
PAL Performing Arts Lodge, Vancouver
Legend and mentor Keith Johnstone: Improv guru, author of IMPRO & Creator of TheatreSports© gave a two day intensive workshop.

March 7-21, 2009 – This is Cancer
Beaumont Stage, Vancouver Intrepid Studio, Victoria HBM produced the BC tour of this multi-award winning play from Toronto. With the addition of a three-piece rock band, the HBM production received rave reviews and standing ovations in Victoria and Vancouver.

October 18 – November 1, 2008 – Carnival of the Arts
ChapelArts, Vancouver
Our third festival ran for three weeks consisting of a multitude of original creation and development. Monster Theatre’s Jesus Christ: The Lost Years headed our mainstage. Screaming Flea Theatre presented a work in development The Green Hour featuring an international ensemble. SHOWOFF Festival featured 10 Vancouver theatre companies creating and performing new 12- minute plays. Filling out our programming was Theatre Under the Gun 10 Year Anniversary, site-specific theatre, music, DJ’s, and a gallery featuring 15 local visual artists.

November 7-11, 2007 – Carnival of the Arts
The Dollhouse Studios, Vancouver
Our second festival ran for two weeks and featured all original theatre from BC, Ontario and USA. Atomic Vaudeville from Victoria, This is Cancer from Toronto, Loungezilla! from San Francisco, the Carnival Smorgasbord featuring all local artists, and our Monster Gallery featuring BC visual artists.

October 5 & 6, 2007 – Show-Off: Theatre Under the Gun Exploded!
Performance Works, Granville Island, Vancouver
12 independent companies participated in our annual original creation event. In 48 hours, and an inspiration package, companies created, rehearsed, designed, and performed original short plays.

July 2007 – Show-Off at the Sweatshop Festival
Victoria Arts Centre, Victoria
Victoria’s Atomic Vaudeville invited HBM to produce and run their successful SHOWOFF event in the island city’s summer Sweatshop Festival. Featured seven local Victoria performance groups.

September 2006 – May 2007 – Producing Residency
Rumble Productions

March 14 – 31, 2007 – TREMORS: Rumble’s Festival of Emerging Arts
Performance Works, Granville Island, Vancouver
HBM, in their year-long producing residency with Rumble Productions received mentorship in grant writing, artistic directing and producing. This residency culminated in the premiere of Rumble’s emerging arts festival. HBM was involved in these aspects of the festival: The Tremors Monster Bar, “Salon Des Refusés” Gallery, Foreshocks and Aftershocks, St. Patty’s Day Psychobilly Hoedown and the New Play Café.

November 4, 2006 – MONSTER PROM
The Anza Club, Vancouver
Here Be Monsters introduced themselves to the world with their web, season, and company launch party. This sold-out audience was witness to the best of Vancouver’s cabaret artists, and a gallery of local visual artists.

March 8 – 18, 2006 – HERE BE MONSTERS: A Carnival of the Arts
Performance Works, Granville Island, Vancouver
Involving over 200 local artists in its two-week span, the carnival proved to be an incredibly inspirational and successful arts event. Performances included SHOWOFF: Theatre Under the Gun Reloaded, Keith Johnstone improvisation workshop, world-renowned visual artist Andrea Tucker, One Yellow Rabbit Artistic Director Michael Green’s The Whaler, and Theatre Melee’s Lazy Susan which garnered three Jessie Richardson Award Nominations including Best Production. *Sponsored in part by Granville Island Cultural Society.
