MONSTERS UNITE!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | September 23, 2011 – Vancouver, BC . . .
On October 27 – 30, the Here Be Monsters Festival will take over Performance Works on Granville Island for its 6th annual monstrous celebration of performing and visual artists in collaboration. Six independent theatre companies will be put to the test to create one of a kind theatre in 48 hours in Theatre Under The Gun (TUG)! As proud participants of Vancouver125, there will be a new element to this year’s festival: 125 Gun Salute! A Theatre Under the Gun Remix…theatre made in 125 hours! Three theatre companies will create unique pieces that will be performed on the last day of the festivities. Other dynamic Vancouver artists of various disciplines will also be featured throughout the festival. See below for programming details!
Festival Opening! Art Reception & Smorgasbord Cabaret
Thu Oct 27 7pm Art Reception | 8pm Cabaret | 9pm Band
We kick off by celebrating all of the participating artists. Opening with an Art Reception, showcasing an exhibition of some of Vancouver’s more outrageous, perhaps controversial, progressive and wild visual artists! Featuring: Margaux Wosk / Retrophiliac. Followed by The Smorgasbord Cabaret, which gives a sampling of what is to come in the festival. Hosted by comedian Riel Hahn, the stage will include alumni further developed TUG performances The Surrealists: A Play (Jason Bryden) and Peter ‘n’ Chris (Peter Carlone & Chris Wilson). Jeff Gladstone with music samplings from The Wings of Lenny Breau, and closing the evening with special guest band and local favorites e.s.l.

Theatre Under the Gun 13
Fri Oct 28 & Sat Oct 29 8pm
Now in its 13th year, we will be challenging Vancouver’s mad indie theatre companies to create original short performances under extreme time constraints. Six companies will receive an “inspiration package” and have 48 hours to create, write, and rehearse their play. These companies will perform over two nights, surprising our audiences with the unexpected.
